Onze trainer, Ossie Lamak, heeft van 16 tot 18 februari deelgenomen aan het Olympisch Qualificatietoernooi voor de Olympische Spelen van de Afrikaanse Tafeltennisbond in Khartoum, Soedan. Hij had gehoopt zijn stunt van 1996 te herhalen, toen hij deelnam aan de Olympische Spelen in Atlanta. In zijn thuisland Soedan werd hij helaas in de eerste ronde uitgeschakeld. In zijn poule eindigde hij op de vierde plaats na Suraju Saka (Congo Brazzaville), Aissa Belkadi (Algerije) en Kanate Ali (Ivoorkust). “Onze” 49-jarige Ossie kreeg wel een prijs voor zijn carrière. Hij werd meer dan 20 keer Soedanees kampioen en is ook nog steeds de enige Soedanese sportman of -vrouw ooit die zich kwalificeerde voor de Olympische Spelen! Proficiat, Ossie! [hr]Our trainer, Ossie Lamak, participated at the 2016 ITTF-Africa Olympic Qualification Tournament in Khartoum, Sudan. He had hoped to repeat his stint from 1996, when he competed at the Olympic Games in Atlanta. Alas, in his homecountry Sudan he was eliminated in the first round. He ended at the 4th place in his poule behind Suraju Saka (Congo Brazzaville), Aissa Belkadi (Algeria) and Kanate Ali (Ivory Coast). However, “our” Ossie, who is 49 years old now, received a prize for his entire carreer. He won more than 20 Sudanese titles and he is still the only Sudanese sportsman or -woman ever who qualified for the Olympic Games! Congratulations, Ossie! You make Pingwins feel proud! (JG)
